I Marie Kondoed my Wardrobe with my Mum

February 15, 2019

Now that Netflix has released the new Tidying Up with Marie Kondo show, it only makes sense that I share my experience using her methods to de-clutter my life!

In 2018, I decided that I was going to declutter and, I did. I started with my shoe closet and then Beauty Storage and inner- wear storage. However, the most overwhelming one of them all is my main closet and so I called for reinforcement? Mama K!

My parents visit couldn?t have been at a better time, my husband was travelling, and  I dint really want to spend time alone during the holidays. Also, having the house to myself meant, I could really get into a deep- declutter with my mum, without feeling guilty for unloading what seemed like years of ASOS Petite catalogues.

Step 1:

We took out everything. and I mean, EVERYTHING.

Step 2:

We split everything in 4 piles, Keep, Keep in Storage, Donate, Throwaway. I touched each item to see if it ‘sparked joy’ i.e. on touching it, did I feel happy and joyful about the item. Things that dint spark joy, were items that were put in the donate and throw away pile.

My Throw away pile was actually negligible as most things just made their way in the first three piles.

Step 3:

I call this the Carrie Bradshaw Step- This is probably my favourite Step- where I tried on everything that I put aside in the Keep and Keep in Storage piles. Things dint fit, automatically made it to the donate pile.

Step 4:

Put back: This was my least favourite step. By this point, I was quite tired of trying on all the clothes I greedily wanted to keep, and have to admit, a lot of this step was done by mum.

Step 5:

Here is an important step that most people don?t do. Take a minute to admire your handywork and give yourself a pat on the back for letting go of the baggage you were holding on to. We decided to celebrate the occasion with a home cooked meal by Mama K! (yes, she did most of the things in this post, but isn?t that why mums are the best?)

D xx

I woke up feeling very nostalgic about celebrating Independence day at home in India. It's been well over a decade and a half since I spent it at home with my family watching the celebrations on TV in the morning and patriotic themed Bollywood movies in the afternoon, but felt a tiny bit homesick today.
So I decided to wear colours sort of inspired by the Indian flag. ๐Ÿงก๐Ÿค๐Ÿ’š
