Ok, so if you are on the liquid matte lipstick train, like me, you’ll totally understand this new obsession I have to keep trying liquid lipsticks.
A few months ago, I was on ASOS just browsing casually, looking for nothing in particular when I decided to look at their beauty section, and saw the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams. Having never tried NYX before, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but all the reviews on the products were great, so I decided to try out a few shades. I have worn two colours in my earlier posts here and here, but I have waited to do a detailed review on them for this long as I wanted to really test them out and see how I felt about them.
The formula of these is quite unique. Unlike all the other liquid matte lipsticks, the NYX Soft Matte Creams on the first application are quite sheer. You can build up the intensity as you like. They also feel a lot more moisturising, like a cream and take a while before they completely dry down. Also, the consistency and performance of all the shades I have tried is the same.
I will say however, that they are not the most long lasting matte lipstick that I have tried. This somehow does not bother me as much, as most lipsticks/ lip stains, don’t last for too long on my lips. Also, when they do fade, they don’t leave a harsh line or flakes of cracked product on the lip like other liquid lipsticks, which is great.
The packaging of these lip creams is quite basic, but that is not a bad thing. They come in an opaque tube and have a doe foot applicator. Since the tube itself is quite small, the applicator’s wand is short as well. I personally prefer this, as I find application with a shorter wand gives me more control, which is especially helpful when it is a lip colour.
Below are the shades I have tried so far:
Rome:
This is probably my favourite colour of lipstick, wait for it,?of all time. It might seem like a mighty claim to make, but Rome is the perfect ‘my lips but?better matter’ colour for anyone with a tan complexion. In fact I like Rome so much that I have included it in the lip products I need to use up for my Project Rock Bottom.
Budapest:
This is a plumy-mauve colour. On applying?one layer, it becomes a slightly darker shade of Rome. On applying a couple of layers, it becomes a gorgeous shade of plum, great to wear all year round. Budapest has also been included in Project Rock Bottom.
Prague:
This is a bright pink with a blue undertone. I always think of this as my going out lip colour. This is also a great colour to wear during summer, and I look forward to wearing it more then.
Dubai:
This is another favourite lip colour at the moment. If you grew up like me in the 90s, then you know that brown lips were all the rage. This is the perfect colour to get that perfect warm brown lip. The colour that is definitely brown on the lip, yet not too vampy or grey. Just like Rome and Budapest, I like Dubai so much, that I included it in Project Rock Bottom as well.
Monte Carlo:
This is a true cherry red with a blue undertone. This colour would look good on all skintones. Although it is called Monte Carlo, in many ways it reminds me of London because of the red buses and telephone booths.
In terms of price, these were ?6.00 on the ASOS website, which makes this really affordable.
I am really pleased with the Soft Matte Lip Creams and can see myself wearing all these colours all year round. Have you tried this range? Are there any other NYX products that you would recommend?

Rome is such a beautiful shade, I have it too and I love it. I also have Cannes, a nude pink shade. These have the nicest formula ๐

I love these ones. A couple of weeks ago I picked Istanbul and Ibiza. I initially thought too drying for my already very dry lips but actually on top of a lip balm they can work well for me. Thanks for the great review!

I have always heard such great things about NYX products but never tried any. These matte lip sticks look amazing. I would be okay with the fact that they don’t stay on forever. Sometimes I find the longer they stay on the lips the more dried out my lips get. Thanks for sharing!

NYX is such an amazing brand and I really love the lip butters – I have very dry lips so anything matte is a bit tricky for me xx
