Today I’m writing a post that I am both excited and terrified to write about.
A few months ago, I put on a few kilos, and while everyone around me told me that I looked ‘healthy’ to me it just made me wince.
I’m someone who believes that people can be beautiful at any weight. I’m not one of those people who believes that you have to be skinny to be beautiful. Having said this, I have been a skinny person for the entire 27 years of my existence. It is not something I did consciously, it is just how my body was. So, for me to have put on weight, makes me uncomfortable. It makes me feel like I’m not me. Someone I don’t recognize when I see myself in a mirror. It is very important to be comfortable in your own skin and doing whatever you have to be get there. Hence, I have decided to track my journey to getting fit and toning my body.
I have never been big on exercise. Growing up, I used to take dance and badminton lessons, but that was it. I have never been a gym enthusiast or anything of the sort. I do enjoy the occasional run. But now, I have decided to make it a daily part of my life rather than an occasional run.
I believe it is very important to have a time frame to make any goal achievable. I’m giving myself until my 28th birthday at the beginning of March. (50 days starting today). Hence I have given myself until then to get fit.
Now, some of you might wonder why I felt the need to make this so public by writing a whole blog post about it rather than just starting with the process. Having worked in marketing my whole working career, creating SMART (Specific, Measurable, Accountable, Realistic, Time Bound) goals comes very easily to me. For me, writing a post is a way of holding myself accountable for seeing this process through.
I have actually thought of writing this post a couple of times before, but have always been afraid to publish it, owing to the commitment of following it through once the post goes live. For me, once I hit that ‘publish’ button today, there is no looking back.
I plan on recording my journey here on my blog with updates as time goes on to further keep motivating me to keep pushing myself.
Wish me luck!

Being healthy and feeling great is the best thing you can provide to your lifestyle. Excercise is always a plus to do. Sometimes if I cannot get to the gym, I watch a Youtube excercise and work out at home. The key is do it at your own pace, no one’s rushing you, but keep being consistent and the rewards are endless! ๐

One of my favorite ways to motivate myself is new, fun workout gear! Those pink shoes are so cute! And I feel you- even though others comment on your appearance, what matters most is how you feel! So if you want to feel more active, find whatever exercise you love. Instead of grabbing drinks with a friend, go on a walk/run together. Or try out classpass so you can experiment with all different types of classes. Good luck!

Me too! It might seem silly, but there is nothing more motivational than new workout gear!

I completely get your journey! I was always te skinny kid who danced and did cheerleading every day after school and when that came to an end and I didn’t have any fitness routine, I had kids, my metabolism slowed down it’s kind of a shock. Yes you look amazing but it still bothers you. I’m working on making fitness part of my daily routine and stress release. We’all be on this challenge together!
I’m so glad I’m not the only one and someone gets me! Its so great that you are trying to incorporate fitness in your daily life too! I’m glad I have you along with me for this challenge!

You go girl! I can’t wait to follow your journey!

First off, do not feel bad about wanting to make a change…whether it’s physical, emotional or mental…no one is in your shoes. I have always been very thin…so much so that my Mom used to ‘encourage’ me to drink a milkshake everyday. Just to not look too skinny. I have always eaten a very normal consumption, have always been athletic and very very petite. Even after 3 kids, I am still a 0. That being said, if I ever say anything to anyone about feeling ‘heavy’ or unfit…I receive a lot of eye rolls. That’s not fair. Even though you’re naturally thin, you can still get healthy for YOU!! That’s all that matters and congrats on publishing this!!!!!!

I totally get you. For years, people treated me the same way if I ever said I felt unfit! But you know what they say, the grass is always greener on the other side! Thanks for stopping by my blog!

Girl, you got this! I’m with you, I think all body types and weights are beautiful and your goal to get in shape is definitely for the right reasons. Working out for me is also a struggle so I feel you lol. It helps me to stay motivated by changing up my routine every so often, so I don’t get too bored. I’m sure those months until your birthday will fly by and you’ll be feeling great ๐
