This week has been our anniversary week and I have been thinking of how quickly the first year of our married life has flown by!
I was looking at photographs from our wedding day and it instantly teleported me to a year ago, when I woke up at 3 am to start getting ready.
We had a traditional Indian ceremony and everything was extremely colourful. I wanted my wedding makeup to standout against the various outfits I had to change during the multiple ceremonies, yet wanted it to be natural looking.
I hired a makeup artist as although I’m confident doing my makeup, on the day, I wanted to relax and be pampered. My makeup artist Neha was extremely talented and listened to all of my requirements.
A tip I would give all brides to be, thinking of hiring a makeup artist would be to get a trial with the makeup artist. Most makeup artists who work within the bridal circuits, get referred through word of mouth and although this is great, as you will probably know the person who has had a first hand experience working with them, it is best to see how their makeup style works for you.
Secondly, don’t be afraid to be honest and give your opinion. It is very important to remember that this is your big day, if you are not pleased with some aspect of the day, even something trivial as the colour of your lipstick, it will show. People will realise your discomfort though your mannerism as everyone is looking at you all the time… literally! (No pressure!)
On the morning of the wedding, we started at 3.30 am as I had to be ready by 6.30 am. Since I had a trial with the look before, I knew roughly what Neha was going to do with the makeup. Also, I had asked her to use my makeup, instead of her kit, which put me in my comfort zone.
Below are some of the products Neha used on me.
Lips
Dior Addict Lip Glow
Just before the wedding, my lips got really dry and chapped. It was practically impossible to wear any lipstick without being in pain. It was then that I discovered this product and have now gone through several tubes of it. I even own it in the limited edition shades Dior offers. On the wedding day, I wore it under my lipsticks to prep my lips, and it sure did work. My lips were comfortable all day.
MAC Lipstick-Hot Tahiti
This is a rosy-berry coloured lipstick from MAC. From the minute I saw this colour, I fell in love with it. Since the formula is glaze, it is very moisturising and keeps the lips hydrated.
Face:
Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay in Place high Cover concealer
The only product that were not from my kit was foundation. We had decided mutually that it would be better to use products from Neha’s kit for base, as she had used them on all her brides and was confident about the results. However, I did insist that we use my concealer as it is my favourite concealer. I use the shade Medium Deep and you can see from the image that it has been well loved.
Tom Ford Tranlucent Finishing Powder- Sahara Dusk
This powder is a great match for my skin tone. It offers coverage yet feels extremely light on the skin. Also, it does not look cake at all. I have used this powder ever since the brand launched it back in 2011 and have been through countless pans of it.
Tom Ford Shade and Illuminate- Shade 2
I love using cream products to contour as I find them easy to blend in. I love this product to contour as it gives such a natural finish. Shade 2 is a perfect match for my skin tone.
MAC Desert Rose Blush
This is blush is one of the first products I ever bought from MAC. It is a mauve that works well on all skin tones and gives an easy natural blush. It is extremely long lasting – something you need on your wedding day!
Eyes:
Tom Ford Eye Quad in Golden Mink
I love the colours from this quad. They suit my skin tone perfectly. The glittery shades make any look very glamorous and sophisticated. Since my saree was very colourful, I wanted the eye look to stand out yet look neutral, and this quad helped in achieving that exact look.
Estee Lauder Sumptuous Infinite
I love this mascara! This is the only mascara I have used in the past 3 years! It makes lashes look so long and clump free. Also, because I have really dark, black lashes, I can only use mascaras that are really black, and this one fits the bill perfectly.
Estee Lauder Little Black Primer
I have currently run out of my tube of this, hence its not included in the photo, however, on my wedding day, I topped my mascara with this to make it waterproof. During our wedding, we had to sit in front of fire and it was making my eyes sting and tear slightly. I was glad to have used this to make my mascara waterproof.
Nails:
Essie Secret Stash
Since my saree was yellow and fuchsia, I selected my favourite colour from Essie- Secrect Stash. It is the brightest, barbie-est, fuchsia, pink and it really stands out. Before the wedding, this used to be my holiday nail colour. Now, it will forever be the nail colour I wore on our wedding day.
Here are a few photos from our wedding day.
Thanks for reading and hope you are having a wonderful weekend!
